John has been a key member of the Sports Labs team since 2017, bringing his expertise in Sports Engineering to the forefront of innovation. After earning his BEng in Sports Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, he moved to Germany to work as a Product Development Engineer at adidas, where he contributed to both the Running and Football Footwear departments.
During his time at Sports Labs, John has been instrumental in various product development and research projects, including the award-winning Field Marshal. He regularly leads testing teams across Europe, conducting Goal Line Technology tests, and played a crucial role in research testing and development of the FIFA Quality Programme for Virtual Offside Lines used within VAR. His contributions to sports technology have been recognised at several forums, including the FIFA Research Symposium, where he has presented some of Sports Labs’ research.
In his spare time, John is an avid golfer and can often be found on the golf course in his spare time. He played football to a decent level in his youth, but now sticks to 5-a-sides and following Scotland, Falkirk and Liverpool.
