Reports To: Laboratory Manager
Remuneration: Negotiable based on experience and skillset. Please note this is an entry level job.
Hours: 39 hours per week, exclusive of regular overtime opportunities
The Job
The Laboratory Technician will support the laboratory team by preparing test samples, managing sample storage, maintaining laboratory equipment, and assisting with the smooth operation of the testing facility. The role is essential in ensuring the efficient flow of samples through the laboratory while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and organisation.
Working within an ISO 17025 accredited environment, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of accurate and reliable testing services for clients across the sports industry.
Duties & Responsibilities
Sample Management
- Receive and book in delivered samples through the quarantine process
- Manage the movement, storage and organisation of samples before, during and after testing
- Ensure all samples are correctly labelled, referenced and stored in the appropriate location
- Prepare and cut samples in accordance with testing requirements
- Prepare laboratory samples for testing activities
Laboratory Operations
- Monitor and regulate Lisport and other wear-testing equipment to minimise downtime
- Assist with routine maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment
- Replace Autosole material on XL wear plates as required
- Inspect XL machine chains and lubricate bearings when necessary
- Clean wheels, beams and associated components on XL testing equipment
- Report maintenance requirements and equipment issues to the Laboratory Manager
Warehouse & Storage Management
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the laboratory, warehouse and quarantine areas
- Keep storage shelves, pallets, tools and work areas neat and orderly
- Store XL shock pads safely and appropriately to prevent damage
- Monitor skip levels and arrange replacement when required
- Assist with regular stock checks and inventory management
- Monitor consumable stock levels, including sand and SBR materials, and report replenishment requirements in a timely manner
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all company policies relating to health and safety, quality assurance and quality control
- Operate in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements and laboratory procedures
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality
- Contribute to a safe, clean and efficient working environment
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Practical and hands-on approach to work
- Ability to follow procedures accurately and consistently
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team
- Reliable, proactive and willing to learn
- Physically capable of handling and moving samples and materials safely
- Previous experience in a laboratory, warehouse, manufacturing or technical environment is desirable but not mandatory
